About the Broward Camera Club

The oldest camera club in the county, Broward Camera Club was established in 1971 by Marty Polk, former member of the Manhattan Miniature Camera Club. At the initial meeting there were thirteen members. Throughout the years the club expanded and at its height, had reached 85 members many of whom had their own darkrooms to process their black and white photographs.

As today, the club meets twice a month, one meeting devoted to competition and the second to various instructive programs.

One of the club’s most interesting and worthwhile projects was providing a print and slide exhibition documenting all aspects of Lauderdale Lakes - the city’s major buildings and  daily activities of its inhabitants.  The project was presented to Mayor Kraft on the occasion of the city’s anniversary and was displayed in City Hall.

When meetings  were held at the Lauderdale Lakes library it was known as Lauderdale Lakes Camera Club. Upon leaving the library, the name was changed back to Broward Camera Club.  It then met at various venues and for the past several years has been happily meeting at Lauderhill’s Veterans Park where it has gradually undergone the transition from film to digital.

For several consecutive years BCC has exhibited at the West Regional Library. It also had a major exhibition at the Sunrise Civic Center as well as Fort Lauderdale’s Main Library.
